ESC (Electronic Speed Controller) Selection for E-Board BLDC Motor
- The speed of BLDC motor does not exceed the speed of ESC, it can be matched and used.
- Brushless DC motor speed calculation formula: battery voltage * motor KV value.
Brushless DC motor stator speed calculation formula: motor KV value * battery voltage * motor pole pairs. - The limit speed of V4 series ESC is 60000 ERPM.
The limit speed of V6 series ESC is 15000 OERPM. - If the maximum speed of BLDC motor exceeds the speed of electric speed controller, the ESC can also be matched by reducing the working voltage of motor. But we do not recommend this, because it does not really play the role of brushless DC motor.

Tips: Why does electric skateboard use a brushless motor?
The reason why the brushless DC motor is widely used in electric skateboard is that it has the following two advantages, compared with the traditional brushed DC motor.
- Brushless DC motor has long life, maintenance-free and high reliability. In a brushed DC motor, due to the high motor speed, brushes and commutator wear quickly. Generally, brushes need to be replaced after 1000 hours of operation. In addition, the reduction gearbox is technically difficult, especially the lubrication problem of transmission gear, which is a relatively big problem in the current brush scheme. Therefore, the brush motor has problems such as high noise, low efficiency, and easy failure. Therefore, the advantages of BLDC motors are obvious.
- Brushless DC motor has high efficiency and energy saving. Generally speaking, because BLDC motor has no mechanical commutation friction loss, gear box consumption, and speed control circuit loss, the efficiency can usually be higher than 85%. However, considering the high cost performance in the actual design, in order to reduce material consumption, the general design is 76%. The efficiency of brushed DC motors is usually around 70% due to the consumption of gearboxes and overrunning clutches.
