We often use these connectors to connect encoder cables to the Delta B2 servo systems (CN2 connector). Although at first sight it seems to be an expensive connector, when you take into account that it is much easier to connect than a solder connection. And also much less fault prone, and easy to maintain. Also standard it has a metalised shell, and easy shielding connection, which makes it very well EMC prone. These factors well outweigh the extra cost. That is why we prefer this connector over a solder connector in our servo systems.
