Nema 17 Stepper Motor Wiring DiagraTips: What is phase number of stepper motor
Phase number of stepper motor indicates the winding number inside the motor. At the present, 2-phase, 3-phase, 4-phase and 5-phase stepper motors are common. Due to the difference in motor phase number, there is also difference in stepping angle. In general, the stepping angle of 2-phase motor is 0.9°/1.8°, that of 3-phase 1.2° and that of 5-phase 0.36°/0.72°. If subdivided driver is not available, the requirement of stepping angle is mainly satisfied by relying on choosing the stepper motors of different phases. By contrast, if subdivided driver is available, "the phase number" will become meaningless. At this time, it is only necessary to change subdivision number on the driver to change the stepping angle.
