Tips: Application of the stepper motor in the electronic clock

Quartz clock is mainly comprised of quartz resonator, integrated circuit, stepper motor (used for the pointer type), LCD display (for digital type), watch battery or AC power. Besides, it also includes elements such as electro-conductive rubber, fine-tuning capacitor, illuminating lamp and buzzer. As for pointer type quartz watch, micro-stepper motor as the transducer and gear transmission system are used to transform the electrical signal into the rotating of the pointer to indicate time. Meanwhile, the stepper motor is used as the transducer to transform the second pulse signal into the rotation of mechanical system to drive the pointer to indicate time. The characteristic of the stepper motor is low consumption, small volume, high transformation efficiency and simple structure. The common clock stepper motors include single-phase PM stepper motors magnetized in radial direction such as dual and single eccentric-type as well as dual and single concave-type. Besides, there is also dual rotor stepper motor magnetized in axial direction, in which the rotor of dual concave type is integrated, featuring simple structure, small power consumption and wide applications. Compared to the quartz watch, quartz clock features larger volume, more power consumption and larger output torque. The rotor magnetic steel of the stepper motor is made of alloy materials featuring large coercivity and residual magnetism like cobalt alloy, etc. The rotor is often made of permalloy while the coil is ennamelled wire with small wire diameter and high strength.
